5 Ways to Deal with a Colleague Who Doesn't Respect Rules
Having worked in a professional environment for many years, I know that to run into such cases of my colleagues breaking the set rules and protocols. As a manager, I have always served these problems cautiously so that the work environment does not become chaotic but the employees abide by the rules. I am going to provide some of the effective ways that I personally used to tackle the situations.
Make sure that your colleague's love for flouting the rules is harrowed into its proper light.
I know that it is very important to be compassionate and to have understanding. Most of the time, instead of blaming my colleague for a mistake, I always try to meditate on the things in the environment that make my colleague do such a thing like this. This has brought about my approach to continue being peaceable and level-headed while dealing with matters related to the violation of the rules.
Go for an inquisitive conversation prior to being aggressive
Numerous times, I have noticed that talking without confrontation turns the other one over to my side. I usually get the ball rolling by asking my teammate to tell me what up their sleeves in their own words. I have often heard the staff members giving reasons why they failed to acts that were supposed to be followed and did some huge steps towards the intention.
Deductive the purpose
I have seen that it is the purpose itself which is sometimes very educative for many colleagues. For example, showing my coworkers 'how especially each of them can gain from carrying out the process' has been my silver bullet if I want them to always turn up for the job regularly.
Provide an opportunity for flexibility if applicable
In my job, I noticed the benefits of adhering to flexibility over the set regulations. I would often sit down with the employees for a gamified brainstorming session in which we'd work together to try and find workarounds that allow for personal expression but still are compliant with the rules. This resulted in the development of new good habits related to compliance among the workforce, and greater job satisfaction was achieved in return as well.
Stay determined even if they ask you to break the rules
There have been cases where I had to be strong in refusing their request. I have figured out that, agreeing with the colleague's perspective by underlying TO DO's honesty (i.e. without the need for it, one will be permanent) and its connection to the rest of the process will be more effective in setting the boundaries.
Through the usage of these methods, I was able to control extremely tough issues that I was confronted with people complaining about the system while turning the experience into a more majorly cooperative and obedient workplace.
